Met. Dept. warning: strong winds, stormy seas

The Meteorology Department has alerted the Disaster Management Centre over warnings of rough sea conditions and strong winds that will prevail today.

The Met. Department forecasts that Under the influence of the system prevailing showery condition (particularly in the Eastern, Uva and Southern provinces and in Puttalam district) is likely to continue today.

The possibility for sudden roughness of sea areas extending from Trincomalee to Puttalam via Hambanthota and Galle is still high.

The other sea areas can be rough at times as the wind speeds can increase up to (50-60) kmph at times.

There is also a possibility that near shore sea areas off the coast extending from Ambalangoda to Matara experiencing surges due to the effect of swell waves.

Therefore Naval units and fishing communities have been asked to be vigilant in this regard.
