Gem mining along Suduganga erodes Matale

Illicit gem mining along the Suduganga in the Matale Divisional Secretariat area is rampant now, residents of the area said.

They said illegal gem miners carry out their business freely as no legal action has been taken so far against them. Rajammana, Hatamunagala, Ankanda, Eriyagolla, Ibulandanda, Walpolawatta and Dunkalawatta have been most affected with illicit gem mining, they said.

Residents of the areas said that certain state officers are involved with the racket.
