Do not support political use of Easter Sunday attacks – Kurunegala Bishop

If any one tried to make use of the Easter Sunday bomb attacks for private gain during the forthcoming Presidential election, our responsibility as Christians is to desist from contributing towards that effort, Church of Ceylon’s Kurunagala Bishop Rt.Rev.Keethisiri Fernando said in a media statement issued yesterday.“However we should do this without any malice,” he said. The statement said that what one ought to do first was to bring all those who committed this dastardly act before the law. The motive behind those who committed these acts was to disturb civilian life by spreading malice and hate and establish their authority.

“As Jesus Christ extolled what we should do was to be innocent as doves and wise like serpents”.

“Jesus Christ summoned us not only to love they neighbour but also to extend love to the enemy. Although many would describe this as meekness, it is a successful weapon to overcome enmity in the long term, Jesus Christ proved to the world at the cross,” the statement added.
