Avant Garde Chairman remanded till Nov.8

Avant-Garde Maritime Services Chairman Nissanka Yapa Senadhipathi who had been named as an accused in the high-profile Avant Garde floating armoury case, was yesterday ordered to be remanded till November 8 by the Colombo High Court Trial-at-Bar. Colombo High Court Trial-at-Bar bench comprising High Court Judges Adithya Patabendige, Dhammika Ganepola and Manjula Thilakarathne observed that the accused had attempted to misuse the judicial process to systematically evade courts.

The Supreme Court dismissed the fundamental right petition filed by Nissanka Senadhipathi on July 3. He had sought an Interim Order restraining the CID from arresting him in connection with the magisterial inquiry on the floating armoury.

The court observed the accused had left the country before delivering the Supreme Court judgment.

Deputy Solicitor General Dileepa Peiris told court that the accused was arrested by CID based on travel ban imposed by Galle Magistrate’s Court.

Senadhipathi was receiving treatment at Singapore and he was yesterday arrested at the Bandranaike International Airport (BIA) upon his arrival on Sri Lanka by CID over the case filed pertaining to the Avant Garde High Seas Arms Trafficking. After being arrested, he was produced before the Colombo High Court Trial-at-Bar.
