Official launch to mark Lanka’s participation at Expo 2020 Dubai

The official launch of the Sri Lanka’s participation at the Expo 2020 Dubai was held yesterday at the Sri Lanka Export Development Board Auditorium with the presence of UAE Ambassador to Sri Lanka Ahmed Ali Ibrahim Al Mualla, Deputy Minister of Development Strategies and International Trade Nalin Bandara ,heads of trade chambers and products associations and other distinguished guests.

In line with the official launch, official website of the Sri Lanka’s participation at Expo 2020 Dubai was also launched.

The Expo 2020 Dubai to be held from 20th October 2020 to 10th April 2021 in Dubai will has three Sub Themes; namely Sustainability, Mobility and Opportunity and Sri Lanka will participate under the Sub Theme of ‘Opportunity’ to showcase the strength of the new industries, investment opportunities and sustainable growth potentials focusing a futuristic vision for 2030.

Sri Lankan especial pavilion will be located at the opportunity district under the theme, ‘Island of Ingenuity’; the pavilion design was done by a student team of the University of Moratuwa with the theme of water.

Expo 2020 Dubai is expected to attract over 25 million of which 70% will be international visitors. It is also expected that there will be more than 200 participant countries during the span of 06 months period.

Expo 20250 Dubai will contribute to achieving the Sri Lanka Vision 2025 by supporting the growth of tourism, stimulating the development of innovative businesses and enhancing the country’s international reputation as a location to do business.

26 product and service sectors will be present during the six month period to showcase Sri Lanka’s ingenuine offers to the world including tourism sector.

Sri Lanka Day celebration is planned on 3rd January 2021; accordingly the event will have two sessions with the participation of Head of the state, Sri Lankan brand ambassadors and other distinguished officials.

Speaking at the event, EDB Chairperson and CEO Indira Malwatte said the event will be an ideal platform for Sri Lanka to showcase best of its products and services and to create much needed business links with the rest of the world.

Not only that the event will be an ideal opportunity for highly talented Sri Lankan professionals, academics who have managed to bring glory to the country in their respective fields to represent the country and promote products and services at the event.

She further noted that this would be a collaborative effort between the public and private sector in Sri Lanka.

Speaking further Malwatte noted the Expo 2020 Dubai platform will be used to promote and brand Sri Lanka as a country with diverse opportunities in the spheres of tourism, trade and investment .Given the magnitude and the global attention, Sri Lanka will use world renowned Sri Lankan personalities, Mahela Jayawardena, Kumara Sangakkara and world renowned –Sri Lanka chef Peter Kuruvita to promote the country at the event.

Speaking at the official launch, Ahmed Ali Ibrahim Al Mualla, the Ambassador of UAE in Sri Lanka said Expo 2020 Dubai will showcase world’s greatest human achievements, superior quality products and services under one roof.

“It will be a celebration like Sri Lanka Day celebration is planned on 3rd January 2021, accordingly, the event will have two sessions with the participation of Head of the state, Sri Lankan brand ambassadors and other distinguished personals.

It will be a celebration like no other,” Ambassador Al Mualla said. He said further that Sri Lanka will be a key partner in Expo 2020 Dubai and the event will create immense opportunities not only for UAE but also for Sri Lanka.
