Gotabaya promises to usher an era without fear

SLPP Presidential candidate Gotabaya Rajapaksa promised to create a safe country once again and ensure national security for all communities alike, so that all citizens could live as a united nation for the future prosperity of this land.

“I will give all legal powers to the security forces to enable them to protect this country so that people will be able to live without fear and suspicion in the future,” Rajapaksa said, speaking at a public rally in Nikaweratiya in the Kurunegala district on Monday.

“Under my government, all war heroes will have a chance to live in dignity, as they deserve the credit and appreciation of the people of this country for their sacrifices for the nation. It is the duty of all of us to ensure discipline and law within the country first,” he said.

“For 30 years, we did not own the Northern and Eastern Provinces due to terrorism. Under the guidance of former President Mahinda Rajapaksa, we were able to defeat the LTTE and peace dawned in the country once again. Before he came into power, Mahinda Rajapaksa promised the people that he would bring peace to the country and as he promised, he brought back peace after 30 years,” the SLPP Presidential candidate said.

“We should not import what we can grow here. All high school students would be ensured better higher education opportunities under our government after this Presidential Election,” he said.

Kurunegala District MP and Opposition Leader Mahinda Rajapaksa speaking at the meeting said that national assets such as airports and harbours were sold by the present government.

“For the next 200 years, Sri Lankans have no right to claim the ownership of these leased out airports and harbours. The present leaders of this country did everything possible to take revenge from the members of the Rajapaksa family and their relations during the past five years. Therefore, they had no time to develop this land and to work for the common people of this country,” the Opposition Leader said.

Kurunegala District MP Johnston Fernando and MP Arundika Fernando too spoke at the rally.
