New Democratic Front (NDF) Presidential aspirant Sajith Premadasa has a clean record whereas Sri Lanka Podujana Peramuna (SLPP) Presidential candidate Gotabaya Rajapaksa has many criminal cases filed against him, State Fisheries and Aquatic Resources Development Minister Dilip Wedaarachchi said.
He was addressing an election propaganda meeting at Unakooruwa in Tangalle, recently.
“Gotabaya Rajapaksa refused to participate in the public platform-2019 as he could not answer certain questions in the absence of his brother Mahinda Rajapaksa. The public platform-2019 was avoided by Gotabaya Rajapaksa indicating the autocratic style of the Rajapaksa regime,” he said.
Continuing further, the State Minister said Gotabaya Rajapaksa is incapable of addressing the media without his brother and do not face the questions posed by journalists, alone. He lacks confidence in expressing his own ideas. The State Minister said when they came into power in 2015, they also took over a legacy of monumental debts piled up by the Rajapaksa regime.
State Minister Wedaarachchi said that the present regime would not allow anyone to disrupt communal amity and foment instability in the country. He said anyone who spreads the fires of religious and racial hatred is a stakeholder in the destruction of the lives of our own people.
The State Minister said that the country should stand together to eradicate all forms of terror and violence which would surface during the Presidential election period and maintain peace and coexistence among people.
“Some politicians exploited the attacks on churches and hotels and the massacre of innocent people for their political needs,” he said.
