Police warn of false alarms

The public has been warned by the police not to be misled by false information and panic. Police Media Spokesman SP Ruwan Gunasekara said that there was no reason for the public to panic as the car parked near a church in Mattakkuliya was due to a breakdown yesterday.

SP Gunasekara called on the public not to be deceived by the spread of false information. adding that investigations had been carried regarding the parked vehicle in Mattakkuliya and the abandoned parcel near a school in Miriswatte.

Police investigations revealed that the vehicle had been parked by the owner near the St. Mary’s Church following an engine failure the previous night.

Military spokesman Maj.Gen.Sumith Atapattu said that there was no need to be alarmed about the parcel that was left near a school in Miriswatte, Gampaha as it did not contain any dangerous substance.

He said the Army had carried out an examination of the parcel following reports of a suspicious package near a school in Gampaha but nothing suspicious was found.
