The Sri Lanka Freedom Party’s (SLFP) Puttalam organiser and former Deputy Minister Victor Anthony Perera pledged his support to the New Democratic Front (NDF) and its presidential candidate Sajith Premadasa yesterday.Addressing a news media conference in Colombo, Perera urged Sri Lanka Freedom Party supporters not to vote for the Sri Lanka Podujana Peramuna (SLPP) if they want to safeguard the SLFP.
He said Mahinda Rajapaksa has shattered and ruined the SLFP by creating the Pohottuwa (SLPP). According to him, Rajapaksa has betrayed the SLFP and therefore party supporters should never vote for the Pohottuwa led by Rajapaksa.
Perera said that due to Rajapaksa’s betrayal, the SLFP could not contest the Presidential Election, which is considered as the most important election of the country and important for a political party.
“Even though he claims that he is the only solid SLFP member, he is responsible for ruining the party,” Perera noted.He urged SLFP supporters not to cast their vote in favour of the Pohottuwa, if they want to protect the SLFP any longer.
“No democratic governance by siblings takes place anywhere in the world. But the Rajapksa brothers go around the country seeking power to rule,” he pointed out. Perera said that SLPP candidate Gotabhaya Rajapaksa presided over the looting of public wealth amounting Rs.11 billion through Avant Garde floating armoury venture and other projects, while Mahinda Rajapaksa sold lands to China for the Port City project.
He accused SLFP General Secretary Dayasiri Jayasekara for selling the SLFP to the Rajapaksas.
