‘Sajith’s victory will be SLMC’s triumph’

Sri Lanka Muslim Congress (SLMC) Founder M.H.M. Ashraff played a major role in ensuring the victory of the late President Ranasinghe Premadasa. Similarly, NDF Presidential candidate Sajith Premadasa seeks the SLMC’s present leadership’s support for a landslide victory at the upcoming presidential election. Hence, the SLMC has decided to support him considering this not only as a victory of the UNP, but the SLMC as well, SLMC Leader and Town Planning, Water Supply and Higher Education Minister Rauff Hakeem said.

Minister Rauff Hakeem was speaking at the SLMC Ampara District Central Committee meeting held at Nintavur Esplanade on Sunday.

He said the forthcoming Presidential election has historical importance as the present President, Prime Minister or Speaker are not contesting and new faces are in the frame. So, everyone should carefully cast their vote for a prosperous and peaceful Sri Lanka where all can live happily. The SLMC was firm in its decision to support Minister Sajith well before the party decided to nominate him. Since NDF Presidential candidate Sajith has won the confidence of the people, he deserves our support and we decided to nominate Sajith as the Presidential candidate when others were hesitating to come out with Sajith’s name. At the time, I boldly came out with our decision to nominate Minister Sajith for the Presidential election.

Minister Hakeem said although SLMC Founder M.H.M. Ashraff had not openly opposed the UNP, he closely associated with President Ranasinghe Premadasa. Once while addressing a public meeting held at the Addalaichenai National College of Education, Ashraff stressed tht Ranasinghe Premadasa should become the President once again. Now his son Sajith Premadasa is contesting the Presidential election and it is our bounden duty to extend our fullest support to him.

State Minister of Health, Nutrition and Indigenous Medicine Faizal Cassim, Former Deputy Minister and MP H.M.M. Harees, MP A.L.M. Nazeer, SLMC Secretary General Nizam Kariapper and several others also spoke.
