Cyber security today is no longer restricted to internet security, it is also related to security of international relations, geo politics, critical network infrastructure, economies, presidential elections and currencies, said Gen. Tan Sri Azumi- Chairman, Cybersecurity Malaysia.

Stressing the need to foster international cooperation to create a resilient cyberspace through the development of excellent relationships and the promotion of cybersecurity capacity building activities among nations, he said strengthening international partnership is one of the pillars of Malaysia’s cybersecurity strategy; moreover Singapore too has fostered international partnerships as a pillar of its cyber security strategy.

“Cyber space is a common space for activities of mankind and it will be the future of all countries across the world. So it is essential to step up communication, broaden collaboration among all nations to jointly build our future in the cyber space,” he told the 12th Annual National Conference on Cyber Security, organized by the Ministry of Digital Infrastructure and Information Technology and Sri Lanka CERT in Colombo yesterday.

“Cybersecurity is a vulnerable and transboundary issue. In this respect, a strong international partnership remains key to navigate these challenges. Partnerships are necessary as cyber attacks are becoming increasing frequent and sophisticated and we live in an increasingly challenging cyber domain, he said adding that, “we must therefore create opportunities for partnerships and collaborations through international and regional engagements like CERT and old system of alliances, often described as a tiny circle of friends is no longer applicable in today’s digital world.”

He s further said that cybersecurity has become strategically indispensible with internet technology and has changed the global security landscape in a big way.

According to him technology transformation could escalate into a cyber warfare with online attacks seriously impacting economic success, competition, geopolitics and international relations .

He also cited rivalry between US and China as a collision of cyber security, geo politics and competition in technology.
