Elpitiya PS results do not denote presidential election outcome – CP Governor

The result of the Elpetiya Pradeshiya Sabha Election cannot be taken into account to predict the outcome of the forthcoming presidential election as the former does not reflect the preference of the whole country, Central Province Governor Ranjith Keerthi Tennekoon said.

He was addressing a press briefing after participating in a ceremony in Hatton on October 12.

He said the recent surveys show that the highest number of floating votes exit for this presidential election and if a presidential candidate succeeded in capturing those votes, he would win.

The governor said the behaviour of the voters in a PS election and a national election largely differs. Over million youth will vote this time intelligently and main candidates must have effective systems and visions to get their votes, he said.

“Government servants of the Central Province have been instructed to comply with rules and regulations during the election period, and they can now vote free of violence and corruption,” he said.

He said steps have been taken to prevent use of public properties for elections activities, and every provincial authority has been made aware of the election laws and regulations.

Since provincial councils have been dissolved, the governors have to take the forefront in activating education, health, disaster mitigation, and other public services, the governor said.
