Ulhitiya-Ratkinda twin reservoir begins irrigating Mahaweli C Zone

The Ulhitiya-Ratkinda twin reservoir of the Mahaweli C Zone is now filled with water. Farming lands in the zone are now irrigated for the Maha season from the twin reservoir.

The Viyaanaa-Ella canal and the Ulhitiyaava Oya supply water from the Randenigla to the twin reservoir.

Farmers in the zone depend on the Ulhitiya-Ratkinda Reservoir for water in the yala season since rains cannot supply adequate water for their crops.

Over 95,000 farming families reside in the Mahaweli Zone C around Girandurukotte and Dehiatthakandiya.

They are now preparing to grow paddy and maize.
