PSC probing Easter attacks to present report on Oct. 23

The final report of the Parliamentary Select Committee (PSC) on Easter attacks will be presented to Parliament on October 23.

PSC Committee Chairman and Deputy Speaker of Parliament Ananda Kumarasiri stated that the final report of the PSC on the 21/04 Easter attacks which took place in Colombo, Negombo, Dehiwela and Batticaloa will be presented to Parliament on October 23.

The PSC has recorded testimonies from about 60 persons, including President Maithripala Sirisena and Prime Minister Ranil Wickremesinghe.

Committee Chairman Ananda Kumarasiri stated the report would provide reasons behind the incident and recommendations that should be implemented in order to prevent a recurrence.

Speaker Karu Jayasuriya appointed this committee on May 22 to investigate and report to Parliament following the April 21 terrorist attacks.

The inaugural committee meeting was held on May 29. The committee is scheduled to meet on October 17 to prepare its final report.

The Committee Chairman stated that a press conference would be held on October 24 after presenting the final report to Parliament to brief the media about the report’s contents.
