Doctor’s bribery case fixed for trial

The second Permanent High Court at Bar hearing a case filed against a former specialist doctor at the Kuliyapitiya Base Hospital for allegedly soliciting and accepting a bribe, fixed the case for trial.

Accordingly, Trial-at-Bar bench comprising High Court Judges R. Gurusinghe, Shashi Mahendran and Amal Ranaraja fixed the case for trial on November 14.

The Permanent High Court has already served indictments against specialist doctor Chandrasiri Tennakoonwela for allegedly accepting a bribe of Rs. 75,000 at the hospital premises.

The prosecution witnesses in the case were advised to appear on the next trial date.

The Bribery Commission had filed indictments against the specialist doctor for allegedly accepting a bribe of Rs.75,000 on or around July 3, 2016, from a laboratory owner of a private laboratory in Kuliyapitiya. President’s Counsel Rienzie Arsecularatne with counsel Thejitha Koralage and Udara Muhamdiramge appeared for the defence.
