SLFP to join forces with SLPP: Yapa

‘MoU to be signed tomorrow’

Kurunegala District United People’s Freedom Alliance (UPFA) parliamentarian Anura Priyadarshana Yapa told the Daily News yesterday that the Sri Lanka Freedom Party (SLFP) has decided to form an alliance with the Sri Lanka Podujana Peramuna (SLPP) for the upcoming Presidential election.

He added that discussions regarding the matter were held yesterday with Opposition Leader Mahinda Rajapaksa and Presidential candidate Gotabhaya Rajapaksa.

The alliance is to be official after a memorandum of understanding (MoU) is signed by the two parties on Wednesday, the MP said.

Both parties are to contest the upcoming Presidential election from the chair symbol, he added.

Meanwhile, SLFP General Secretary Dayasiri Jayasekara told the Daily News yesterday that the SLFP would not field a candidate of its own for the upcoming election, but rather to join with the SLPP.
