Uppuveli Police seized five foreign-made rifles and 1,700 rounds of live ammunition from a graveyard in Alaswatta, Trincomalee, last Sunday evening.

The munitions, which are of Yugoslavian make, were found buried in a plastic barrel. Police believe they had been used by the Liberation Tigers of Tamil Eelam in the 30-year civil war.

The barrel had been spotted by a group of gravediggers who were on duty.

One of the rifles have been modified to launch grenades as well. Investigations are continuing.
