Wildlife officers free leopard caught in trap

Officers of the Nuwara Eliya regional office of the Wildlife Conservation Department rescued a leopard which was caught in a trap, at a tea estate in Doragala, Dawatagaha, on Saturday.

The leopard was treated by a team of Wildlife officers under the instructions of veterinarian Akalanka Rathnasiri of the Randenigala Wildlife Conservation hospital.

Later, it was released into the Pidurutalagala reserve.

According to Wildlife Conservation Department sources, approximately 30 leopards have been killed in the hill country area this year.
