Gotabaya’s citizenship petition

‘Verdict shows Judiciary’s independence’

The verdict delivered by the three-judge bench regarding the petition against Gotabaya Rajapaksa’s citizenship clearly shows that there is an independent Judiciary without any interference by the leaders of the present regime, State Minister of Fisheries and Aquatic Resources Dilip Wedaarachchi aid.

Speaking at a meeting in Kudawella, he said the Judiciary was subjected to pressure by the leaders of the previous regime.

Wedaarachchi said it must be emphasised that anyone helping to spread religious and racial hatred during the Presidential Election period is a stakeholder of the destruction of the lives of our citizens and the future generation.

He said that there is a systematic plan to destabilise the country and the present regime by spreading erroneous information, but the present regime has the capacity to face it.

“A rainbow coalition has been formed to ensure the victory of the UNF Presidential candidate Sajith Premadasa who is capable of achieving what the incumbent President could not do. People are looking for a leader who could ensure that the country’s democracy remained intact along with national security, territorial integrity, peace and sovereignty,” the State Minister said.

He said that expenditure on fanfare projects launched by the Rajapaksa regime that did not bring any financial dividends was the reason that the country was burdened with an enormous debt.
