Ananthiya Passikuda felicitated at World Tourism Day

Twenty eight (28) classified hotels including ,the one and only 5 star hotel “Ananthiya Pasikkudsah” and two 4 Star Hotels Amaya in Passikuda and Chaya Blue in Nilaveli in the Eastern Province and A Grade Guest houses received awards at a ceremony organized by the Chamber of Tourism and Industry of Sri Lanka to mark the World Tourism Day- 2019 at the Blue Way hotel in Arugam Bay.

The Chamber of Tourism and Industry organized the event in collaboration with the Sri Lanka Tourism Development Authority and the Eastern Tourism Bureau. Minister of Tourism Development, Wild life and Christian Religious Affairs John Amarathunga said that the Ministry of Tourism were implementing new features to attract more tourists. “The free visa facility extended to tourists is one such move,” he said.

The Minister requested hotel owners to obtain classification from the Sri Lanka Tourism evelopment Authority as it will help to market the hotels for high end tourists. The International Surfing Competition hosted at Arugam Bay proves that destination is returning to normalcy.

The Minister also thanked the President Chamber of Tourism and Industry A. M.Jaufer for his hard work done towards promoting Tourism in the East.

Minister of Primary Industries and Social Empowerment Daya Gamage in his address said that with the opening of the Airport in Jaffna and Batticaloe there will be more tourist arrivals. Speaking on the occasion President Chamber of Tourism and Industry A. M. Jauffer said that there are 400 hotels in the Eastern Province with 4,500 rooms and by 2022 the requirement of hotel rooms in the Eastern province will be around 9,000.

He emphasized the need of attracting Chinese, Indian and Middle Eastern tourists to Eastern province. Beach cleaning programs, felicitation of Eco Tourism service providers, Service awards to Women employees in the Tourism Industry, Presentation of awards to winners of the art competition for schoolchildren on the theme of how to create job opportunities and women participation in the tourism industry’ were presented awards by special invitees. A fishing contest organized during the celebrations saw a large number of fishermen’s participation.
