Election Commission sets up hotlines for complaints

Election Commission Chairman Mahinda Deshapriya, yesterday announcing the contact details of the National Election Complaints Centre, requested the public to promptly direct their election-related complaints to them.

Telephone numbers 011-2868212, 011-2868560 and 011-2868217, and fax numbers 011-2868529 and 011-2868526 have been allocated to receive election-related complaints. The public can direct their complaints using ‘Viber’ and ‘Whatsapp’ to numbers 071-9160777 or 071-9160000. The e-mail address ‘[email protected]’ is also dedicated to receive complaints. The complaints directed to the Facebook pages ‘Election Commission of Sri Lanka’ and ‘Tell Commission Election Commission of Sri Lanka’ are also accepted.

Speaking to the media at the Election Secretariat premises yesterday, Deshapriya said the Election Commission’s prior approval is a must for appointments in the public sector and for public ceremonies during the election period.

He said a large number of requests on appointments, recruitments and promotions in various Ministries, government departments and public corporations have been received to the Election Commission as at present and that the Complaints Centre was going through them. “Prior approval has been sought to them as per the circular issued by the Election Commission.The Centre has also got several complaints of transfers in the public sector,” he noted.

Election Commissioner Prof. Ratnajeevan Hoole is in-charge of the work of the Complaints Centre.
