An All Island Eastern Band Competition Camp was conducted at the National Cadet Corps (NCC) Training Center, Rantembe from September 13 to September 20 with the participation of 56 band cadet platoons, a media release issued by the NCC-Media Unit said.
The passing out ceremony of the camp was held under the patronage of Director NCC Major General M.M.S. Perera and 1,400 cadets passed out upon successful completion of their advanced training.
At the awards ceremony, Major U.G. Wijekoon Banda was felicitated by the Director NCC in recognition of his yeomen service rendered to the organisation. Major Wijekoon had served as a senior staff officer in charge of band training in all battalions, attached to the Headquarters NCC.
Cadets who underwent training faced the final competition to select the most outstanding Eastern band of the year. St. Sylvester’s College, Kandy secured championship under boys’ division while Rathnavali Balika Vidyalaya, Gampaha became the champions in girls’ division.
Senior officers of Tri-Services, the Inspector of Training of HQ NCC, the Commandant-NCC Training Center, Senior officers of the NCC, principals, teachers, parents and past cadets participated.
