JVP would usher economic prosperity: Anura Kumara

Janatha Vimukthi Peramuna (JVP) Leader and Presidential candidate Anura Kumara Dissanayaka said he has plans to create an economy that would be prosperous for all. He was speaking at a recent meeting held at the Moneragala Public Library auditorium.

The UNP came to power promising that it would bring to book all those who are involved in corruption, but that never came to pass, he said.

The Anti-Corruption Front (ACF) has lodged 136 complaints with the Financial Crimes Investigation Division (FCID), which include the MiG Deal and the D.A. Rajapaksa Memorial Museum case. Furthermore, there is also evidence that the previous government was involved in a Rs.2 billion corruption case, the MP added.

MP Dissanayaka said that having a police force, those responsible for the deaths and disappearances Lasantha Wickrematunge, Wasim Thajudeen, Lalith Weeraraj, Koogan Muruganandan, and Prageeth Eknaligoda were still roaming free. He added that drug trafficking was also spreading at an alarming rate, but no proper measures have been taken to prevent it.

The parliamentarian said that 90 percent of the country’s prison inmates are those who have failed their G.C.E. Ordinary Level examinations. He added that he would make higher education compulsory for all schoolchildren, and that those who do not pass their Advanced Level examinations would be provided with vocational training.

MP Dissanayaka said that the country’s agricultural sector was running at a loss. He said that he plans to distribute fertile lands under multinational companies to the farming community, as well as to increase the exportation of agricultural products.
