Sri Lanka Podujana Peramuna (SLPP) Presidential candidate Gotabhaya Rajapaksa, whose passport was impounded in connection with the D. A. Rajapaksa Museum case, was yesterday permitted to travel Singapore for a medical check-up by the Permanent High Court Trial-at-Bar.

The Trial-at-Bar bench comprising High Court Judges Sampath Abeykoon (President), Sampath Wijeratne and Champa Janaki Rajaratne allowed Gotabaya Rajapaksa to travel Singapore between October 9 and October 12.

The court ordered the registrar of the Permanent High Court-at-Bar to temporally release Gotabhaya Rajapaksa’s passport following his request that he is required to present it when handing over nomination to contest the upcoming Presidential Election.

Deputy Solicitor General Dileepa Peiris with State Counsel Udara Karunatilleka, appearing for the Attorney General, informed court that the prosecution would not object to the request since it was made for medical purpose.
