Common Forum for Presidential candidates to explain policy on construction sector issues

Eng. Nissanka N. Wijeratne, Secretary General/ CEO of the Chamber of Construction Industry Sri Lanka, said that Sajith Premadasa, Gotabhaya Rajapaksa and Anura Kumara Dissanayake who are Presidential candidates from political parties represented in Parliament, have already been invited to address a common forum on October 30, to explain their policies in solving issues pertaining to the construction sector. The issues affecting this sector would be given to the 3 candidates would be in advance.

He said that it would be a very important forum, as the construction sector provides direct and indirect employment to nearly 1.0 Million Sri Lankans. Sustenance of 20% of our population depends on this sector. The contribution of this sector to the GDP averages 9%.

The performance of the construction industry is very often considered as an indication of the economic development of any country. At present, this industry is facing a crisis due to multiple reasons.

The Chamber hopes that this initiative would lead to a new political culture in our country.
