Athauda, Ekanayake cross over to support Sajith

Former UPFA Minister Athauda Seneviratne and former Deputy Minister W.B.Ekanayake yesterday announced their cross-over from the one-time Mahinda Rajapaksa-led UPFA to the United National Front (UNF) to extend their support to UNF presidential candidate Sajith Premadasa.

One-time minister Seneviratne and one-time deputy minister Ekanayake were both originally elected to Parliament from the United National Party but later crossed over and were parliamentarians in the UPFA until the 2015 general elections.

Speaking to media at a press conference held in Colombo yesterday, Seneviratne said he had now joined Sajith Premadasa’s bid for the presidency as the people of this country are disappointed with the politicians due to fraud and corruption.

He said the main rival group competing against Premadasa was “packed with corrupt individuals”. There are wrongdoers in the government too, he said. He requested Premadasa, after becoming the President, to enforce the law against all wrongdoers without any hesitation.

Ekanayake said he was supporting the UNF candidate due to his record of transparency.

Ekanayake assured his fullest support to Minister Premadasa and supported his programme to empower the poor.
