Tuesday’s President-Sajith talks on national security issues - SLFP spokesman

Tuesday’s meeting between President Maithripala Sirisena and UNP Presidential Candidate Sajith Premadasa was to discuss the current situation in the country, SLFP Media Spokesman MP Weerakumara Dissanayake said.

“As the President of the country, he has no barrier to meet anybody.

This meeting was held to discuss some matters related to national security and the series of protests currently held in the country.” the MP said.

He said Ministers Kabir Hashim, Akila Viraj Kariyawasam, MPs Dayasri Jayasekara, Mahinda Amaraweera and Lasantha Alagiyawanna participated at this meeting.

Addressing the weekly media conference, MP Dissanayake stressed that the SLFP has not discussed matters related to the Presidential Election with any other political party other than the SLPP.

Commenting on the ongoing process of taking disciplinary action against members those who violated party discipline, SLFP Spokesman said that four Pradeshiya Sabha members have already expelled and party membership of 24 other Pradeshiya Sabha members suspended.

“Disciplinary inquiries against MPs Dilan Perera, S.B. Dissanayake, Lakshman Yapa Abeywardane, A.H.M.Fawzie, Vijith Vijayamuni Soysa are scheduled to be conducted on October 5,9 and 10,” he added.
