‘Children should be taught elders’ value’

Children should be taught the value of respecting elders since the young generation’s attitude towards the elderly become less impressive day by day, Polgahawela Rathnaloka Vidyalaya Principal W.M. Premarathne said.

He was addressing the gathering at an event held at the school to mark the International Day of Older Persons (Oct. 1). This is the sixth consecutive year that the school organised such an event.

He said that the number of elders’ homes is increasing rapidly and the North Western Province has the highest.

The principal further said schools must hold awareness programmes to make the students aware of how to respect and treat their elders.

Seventy elders were felicitated at the event.
