Two suspects in murder, robbery case acquitted

Two suspects indicted for killing a person and robbing assets worth Rs. 58,000 was acquitted and released by Galle High Court Judge W.P.S. Nissanka recently.

The suspects were Sanjeewa Menik Senavirathna and Asgiriya Mudiyanselage Weerawardana alias Sumith.

They were accused of killing Edmond Seeman Panditaratna of Richmond Hill Road, Galle and robbing assets worth Rs. 58,000 of the deceased’s daughter, Hayasinth Panditaratna, on or before March 18, 2002.

The suspects were accused of entering the house at night, while the occupants were asleep and killing Panditaratna and robbing Rs. 8,000 and gold items worth Rs, 50,000, police told court.

State Counsel Pathmal Weerasinghe prosecuted. Attorneys Tusith Pallewatta and Rajani Abeywickrema appeared for the first and second respondents.
