Social worker honoured

Founder of Srimath Anagarika Dharmapala Humanitarian Foundation Jayantha Sumanasekara receives the honorary award from the Most Venerable Sri Gnananada Wansalankara Saddharma Keerthi Sri Vinayachary, Maha Mahopadya, Bokanoruwe Sri Jinananda Thera.
Founder of Srimath Anagarika Dharmapala Humanitarian Foundation Jayantha Sumanasekara receives the honorary award from the Most Venerable Sri Gnananada Wansalankara Saddharma Keerthi Sri Vinayachary, Maha Mahopadya, Bokanoruwe Sri Jinananda Thera.

In view of yeoman service rendered to the nation, Founder of Srimath Anagarika Dharmapala Humanitarian Foundation Jayantha Sumanasekara was honoured with the award of Sri Sugatha Sasanamamaka Deshabhimani Lekhanasuri on September 19 at Sri Gnanodaya Buddhist Centre, Mailagastenna, Badulla.

The Srimath Anagarika Dharmapala Humanitarian Foundation was founded 49 years ago on September 17, 1970, by Sahithyasuri Deshamanya Jayantha Sumanasekera of Ruhunupura, Thalawathugoda, to spread the patriotic message of Anagarika Dharmapala from village to village.

While dedicating his life to the philosophy of the country, race, religion and the language of Anagarika Dharmapala, Sumanasekara has published over 150 books on Buddhist literature. He has started a book publication subcommittee in the Foundation to support novice writers and is regularly publishing the ‘Sarana’ Buddhist newspaper.

He received the honorary award from the Most Venerable Sri Gnananada Wansalankara Saddharma Keerthi Sri Vinayachary, Maha Mahopadya, Bokanoruwe Sri Jinananda Thera, the chief high priest of the Uva Udukinda Sect of Sri Lanka Amarapura Maha Nikaya.

The event was organised by Ven. Dr. Bandarawela Wimaladhamma Thera in parallel to the 155th birth anniversary of Srimath Anagarika Dharmapala and many ordained and lay dignitaries, including the patron of Srimath Anagarika Dharmapala Foundation, the Most Ven. Nattarampotha Siriwimala Nayaka Thera, Secretary Ven. Malegoda Nanda Thera, Ven. Amugoda Somananda Thera, Ven. Madowitha Vijarabuddhi Thera and the Secretary of Uva-Amarapura Sect, Ven. Lunugala Nandasara Thera participated.

Jayantha Sumansekara has received honourary awards from all three nikayas ­– Siam, Amarapura and Ramanna and many other accolades from numerous sources for his services.
