Arrested with Kerala cannabis

Kalmunai Police arrested a suspect with 15kg of Kerala cannabis on a tip-off, last Sunday.

The suspect has been identified as a 28-year-old resident of Sainthamaruthu. He was to be produced at the Kalmunai Magistrate’s Court, yesterday.

Kalmunai Police are investigating.

Held over possessing heroin

Weeragula police arrested a suspect possessing 2.1 grams of heroin on a tip-off, last Sunday.

The suspect has been identified as a 27-year-old resident of Wabadamulla, Kaleliya. He was to be produced at the Gampaha Magistrate’s Court, yesterday.

Investigations are continuing.

Arrested over drug possession

Mount Lavinia Police, acting on a tip-off, arrested a suspect with 4.54 grams of heroin in Mount Lavinia, last Sunday.

The suspect was identified as a 31-year-old resident of Badowita. He was to be produced at the Mount Lavinia Magistrate’s Court, yesterday.

Police are investigating.

Two brothels raided

Mount Lavinia Police arrested five suspects in two recent brothel raids. Two brothel managers were among those taken into custody.

The raids were carried out in Mount Lavinia and Ratmalana, on search warrants obtained by the Mount Lavinia Magistrate’s Court.

The suspects are between the ages of 20 and 41 and are residents of Agalawatta, Thambuttegama, Higurangoda, and Gandara.

They were to be produced at the Mount Lavinia Magistrates’ Court, yesterday.

Mount Lavinia Police are investigating.

One dead in clash

A man died in a clash that erupted at a filling station in Malsiripura, last Sunday. The deceased was employed at the filling station.

The incident had occurred when he had clashed with another employee at the station. He had succumbed to his injuries on admission to the Gokarella Divisional Hospital.

The deceased was identified as Sanjeewa Premabandu, a 41-year-old resident of Mawathagama. His body is being kept in the Gokarella Divisional Hospital.

Investigations are continuing.

Man dies in elephant attack

A man died in an elephant attack in Ruhunagama, last Sunday. The deceased was identified as Kumburegedara Muthubanda, aged 47.

His body is being kept in the Aralaganwila Divisional Hospital.

Police are investigating.

Accident claims life

A man died in a motorcycle-tipper collision in Kebithigollewa, last Sunday.

Following the accident, the motorcyclist had been admitted to the Kebithigollewa Base Hospital, where he was pronounced dead on arrival.

The deceased was identified as Gunathilakage Kumarasingha, aged 54. The body is in the Kebithigollewa Base Hospital.

Investigations are continuing.

One dead in accident

One person died and another was injured in a motorcycle-bicycle accident that recently occurred in Thalawa, Anuradhapura.

They were both admitted to the Thalawa Hospital, where the latter was pronounced dead on arrival.

The deceased has been identified as Ranbanda, a 57-year-old resident of Thalawa. The body is in the Thalawa Hospital.

Police are investigating.
