Resolve pay issues or we will strike - GMOA

The Government Medical Officers' Association (GMOA) will launch an islandwide strike after tomorrow if the Cabinet Sub Committee fails to come up with a viable solution to resolve the salary anomalies of medical officers and other executive officers in the state sector, GMOA Secretary Dr. Haritha Aluthge said.

Speaking at a press conference at the GMOA headquarters in Colombo yesterday, he said so far, the GMOA was not involved in the ongoing strikes launched by many sectors because it was mindful of the hardships faced by patients and flood victims.

The Cabinet Sub Committee should act promptly and bravely in order to rectify the injustice which has occurred to all the executive grades including doctors just like the salary increases given to the legal sector, he said.

“Nowadays, the whole country is cynical about the various committees appointed to look into various issues and therefore it is very important for this Cabinet Sub Committee to consider all the proposals received by them, discuss with trade unions, and rectify the grave error,” he added.
