Girls High School, Kandy organized a get-together of the Old Girls of the School on August 24 at the Bogambara Stadium. The Sports Meet was arranged by a distinguished Old Girl, past teacher and the former Prefect of games of the School, Dineli Nugegoda. Most of the past sportswomen of Girls High School were present at the event wearing the special T’Shirts in the respective house colours made for the occasion. This was the first event organized in the 140 years of existence of Girls High School, Kandy.
Past Principals, T K Ekanayake snd M Amunugama and the Vice Principals Swineetha Perera and Chandra Edirisooriya graced the occasion. The Guest of honour was Sunil Jayaweera who was one of the first relay and athletic Coach of the School. He is presently the Consultant Of Physical Education attached to the Ministry of Education.
Vinitha Palihakkara, the Patron, was a past Netball Captain and a House Captain, who joined in all the activities as the oldest sportswoman of the School. Rosemary Moonamale Edirisinghe and Hajira Salley, who addressed the gathering reminded the old girls of their childhood activities.
Several events like the Invitation Relay and some group events were held. A yoga and a Medical Programme too were held. A drill display with the Western Band was performed.
