Sri Lanka Cricket officials apologise before COPE

Sri Lanka Cricket (SLC) officials apologized before the Committee on Public Enterprises (COPE) for failing to appear before the committee yesterday.

The forensic audits that scrutinize the activities of Sri Lanka Cricket have revealed a number of financial irregularities and massive corruption in it.

The top officials of Sri Lanka Cricket, its Chairman Shammi Silva, Treasurer Lalith Rambukwella and Chief Executive Office Arnua de Silva apologized for evading the COPE probe on the Sri Lanka Cricket.

They tendered their apology yesterday in response for a directive by the COPE to the Sri Lanka Cricket to show cause for failing to appear before the committee when it had been summoned on September 3.

COPE members pointed out that the excuses made by Sri Lanka Cricket officials was testimony enough to confirm the allegations of massive corruption there and the irresponsible and arbitrary manner its officials conducted its affairs.

Secretary Mohan de Silva and Vice President Raveen Wickremeratne of Sri Lanka Cricket were also present at yesterday’s investigation.
