Drunk bus driver jailed on fifth conviction

Licence suspended, fined Rs. 3500

Panadura Additional Magistrate Chandana Kalansuriya sentenced a private coach driver to one years’ imprisonment fine of Rs 3,500 and suspended his driving licence when he pleaded guilty to the charge of driving his bus on Galle road in a negligent and reckless manner whilst being under the influence of liquor.

Constable Upul Kumara of the Wadduwa Traffic Police producing driver Gampolage Nishantha Priyalal before Court on Tuesday informed court that he had four previous convictions on similar charges where he had pleaded guilty to driving the coach on Galle Road under the influence of liquor. The plaint was filed by PC Udaya Kumara on the instructions of the Wadduwa Police OIC Suneth Shantha.
