Eight policemen interdicted over embezzlement of Rs.10 mn

Eight police officers, including the Chilaw Police Anti-vice Unit Officer-in-Charge, have been interdicted over the embezzlement of over Rs.10 million, the Police Media Division told the Daily News.

The cash was seized when police conducted a raid against gambling at a hotel in Wennappuwa on September 6, the Police Media Division said. Aside from the eight policemen, another suspect had also been arrested during the raid, they added.

However, there had been 20 suspects in the hotel at the time it was raided, the Police Media Division said.

The officers in question were interdicted following an inquiry by the Naththandiya Assistant Superintendent of Police (ASP), Police Media Division said.
