Eight suspects in Beruwala heroin case remanded till September 30

The eight suspects arrested in connection with the heroin haul seized in Beruwala were further remanded until the September 30 by Colombo Chief Magistrate Lanka Jayaratne, yesterday.

The Police Narcotics Bureau detected 231.54 kilograms of heroin in 214 packs concealed in large sugar bags. According to the B Report, the suspects had connections with Seychelles and Pakistan for a long period.

When the case was taken up before the court, a prison officer said that the second suspect, M.R. Mohomed Farzar, received a parcel from a person at the open court. The prison officer had found nine sim cards and few beedi leaves in his possession.

The magistrate instructed the police to detain the person and record a statement regarding the parcel. The magistrate instructed the Keselwatta police to conduct an investigation into the incident and record statements from the suspect.
