Two suspects arrested in connection with the Hanwella shooting

The police today arrested two suspects in connection with the shooting at Hanwella on Sunday night where one person was killed and two others were seriously injured..

Out of the three persons who had sustained injuries in a shooting incident in Hanwella, one of them who was admitted to the Nawagamuwa Hospital was pronounced dead on admission, Police Spokesman SP Ruwan Gunasekara said. The victim has been identified as 23-year-old Beligollegedara Suresh Ruwantha Gunasinghe, a resident of Jalthara, Ranala.

One of the other injured victims 26-year-old Kanattagamage Indunil Vajira Kumara, a resident of Jalthara, Ranala has been transferred from the Homagama Hospital to the Colombo National Hospital for further treatment.  

The Police Spokesman said that the other victim had been admitted to the Avissawella Hospital, but his identity has not been established as yet.

The three persons had sustained injuries when a group of persons who had arrived in a van had opened fire on them at the Embulgama Junction in Hanwella, according to the Police Media Spokesperson.

Reportedly, a gang which had arrived in a van had opened fire near the junction, around 9.15 pm on Sunday  (15).

Meanwhile, the police commenced immediate investigations into the shooting incident and by this morning the police had arrested two suspects from among the group who had arrived in the van and carried out the shooting. The police had also recovered a motorcycle and van in connection with this incident.
