Beruwala heroin haul suspects re-remanded

The eight suspects, who were arrested in connection to the heroin haul in Beruwala were further remanded until the September 30 by Colombo Chief Magistrate Lanka Jayaratne.
The Police Narcotics Bureau detected 231 kg 54 g of heroin, in 214 packs concealed in large sugar bags. According to the B-report, the suspects have had connections with The Seychelles and Pakistan for a long period.

When the case was taken up before the court, prison officer observed that the second suspect named M.R.Mohomed Farzar received a parcel from a person at the open court. The Prison Officer had found 9 sim cards, a watch type machine and few beedi leaves in his possession.

The Magistrate instructed the police to detain the person and record statement regarding the parcel. The Magistrate further instructed the Keselwatta police to conduct an investigation regarding the incident and record statements from the suspect.
