Anura Kumara tells trade union leaders:

‘Nation-building cannot be by single person’

Building a nation is not merely the work of magic by one single person but is, always, a collective effort, presidential aspirant of the Jathika Jana Balavegaya (National People’s Power) and JVP Leader Anura Kumara Dissanayaka told a gathering of trade union and workers’ organisation representatives in Colombo on Thursday. The political alliance of the left-wing Jathika Jana Balavegaya is the only such collective force with the ability to build this country, he argued.

He was addressing the Working People’s Assembly organized by the JVP-led National Trade Union Centre (NTUC) at the Sugathadasa Indoor Stadium, Colombo.

The people’s choice of rulers for the country has always been wrong for the past seventy-one years and such wrong decisions have dragged the country towards a destructive end, Dissanayake claimed. He pointed out that the working class representing the public, semi-government, private and the estate sectors had joined hands with the JVP-NPP today and promised that the working class of the country would be looked after properly under a government formed by them.

“We will convert the loss-incurring institutions into profit-making bodies. We have that ability. Then they will contribute to the development of the nation,” he said.

According to him, the semi-government sector has been incurring losses due to political interference and the appointments made to the high posts by the politicians.

Under a JVP-NPP government, this situation will be changed and instead, most suitable individuals with the expertise will be made the heads of such institutions, he assured.

“So far the people of the country have not selected the correct path to develop this country. We will set up an administration that the country could be carried towards the prosperity,” Dissanayake further said.
