The opportunity to reject politicians attempting to rise to power by destabilising the country would arrive within the next two to three months; Housing, Construction, and Cultural Affairs Minister Sajith Premadasa said.

He said so while delivering the memorial oration at the commemorative ceremony organised to mark the 22nd death anniversary of late Speaker Mohammed Abdul Bakeer Markar, which was held at the Sri Lanka Foundation Institute (SLFI) in Colombo, on Tuesday. The ceremony was organised by the Bakeer Markar Centre for National Unity.

Highlighting the importance of helping the citizens of the country to live in prosperity, Minister Premadasa said that in order to build a strong nation, all communal, religious, and caste differences should be put aside.

He said that only 20 percent of the country's population enjoy 55 percent of the country’s income.

“The Census and Statistics Department's reports have revealed that an unequal economic system pervades the country. Therefore, a revolutionary change in the economic system is necessary to solve this issue,” he said.

Minister Premadasa, who emphasised that people who are engaged in politics should cleanse their hearts, called upon all citizens of the country to join hands to make their dreams a reality.
