Ceylinco Life launches 19th Pranama Scholarships Program

Sri Lanka’s insurance leader Ceylinco Lifehas announced it will award more than Rs 11 million to 160 future leaders of the country in February 2020 under the 19thedition of the Ceylinco Life ‘Pranama’ Scholarships program, one of the Company’s flagship initiatives.

Designed as a rewards scheme for Ceylinco Life policyholders’ high achieving children, the Pranama scheme has to date disseminated a total of Rs 143 millionand benefitted 2,571 students.

The new edition will take this total to Rs 154 million as it will once again reward students who excel in academics, sports, the arts and other extracurricular activities.

The Company has announced that its branches island-wide will begin accepting applications from Augst 20, from those eligible to be rewarded under the four-tiered scholarship scheme.Applications for these scholarships close on November 30, the Company said.

Commenting on the program, Ceylinco Life Managing Director and CEO Mr Thushara Ranasinghe said: “In a company that forges relationships for life ‘Pranama’ is just one example of how Ceylinco Life touches not just the lives of its policyholders, but also of their children, by supporting and motivating them to pursue their aspirations. Significantly, the programme’s impact transcends the lives of policyholders and benefits the community at large, as demonstrated by the many Pranama scholarship holders now serving in fields such as medicine, law and engineering.”

Ceylinco Life Pranama scholarships are presented to policyholder’s children who achieve the best results in their respective districts at the Year 5 scholarship examination, the GCE Ordinary Level, and the GCE Advanced Level as well as to those who excel at the national level in sports, culture, arts, drama or invention. The Company also pays special cash awards to policyholder’s children who are placed second, third and fourth at district level at the GCE Advanced Level examinations.

The newest edition of ‘Pranama Scholarships’ will reward 25 students who excelled at the 2019 Year 5 scholarship examination with Rs 120,000 each, payable in installments over five years. Another 25 students who excelled at the 2018 G.C.E. (O/L) will each receive Rs 84,000, payable monthly over two years, while 25 students placed 1stin their districts at the 2018 G.C.E. Advanced Level examinations will receive scholarships worth Rs 144,000 each, payable over a three year period.

Furthermore, one-time payments of Rs 30,000 each will be presented to 75 students placed 2nd, 3rd, and 4thin their districts at the 2018 GCE Advanced Level examination.

Ten students who have excelled in sports, drama, invention or creative fields in 2018 and 2019 too will be presented merit awards, each to the value of Rs 35,000.
