All set for Elpitiya PS election

All measures to provide security for holding the Elpitiya Pradeshiya Sabha election scheduled to be held on October 11 have already been taken, Elpitiya SP Budhdhi Udugamasooriya told the media.

Accordingly at Elpitiya and Pitigala police stations within the Pradeshiya Sabha area two special election monitoring units have been instituted and mobile police patrolling in the division have further been boosted he said.

SP Udugamasooriya further said that round – the – clock special search operations would be initiated throughout on each day.

On inquiry Galle District Deputy Election Commissioner K.U.Chandralal commenting on the forthcoming local government election for Elpitiya P.S said that a total of 47 polling booths would be established out of which 18 centers will be at Buddhist temples and other 29 will be set up at government schools and state institutions.

Counting would be carried out at respective polling booths and final count would be done at main Election Operation Unit established at Elpitiya Vocational Training Center, Deputy Election Commissioner further disclosed.

Government offices have been already notified to name the officers for election duties by the District Election office.

Galle District Secretary also said that he had prearranged a special mechanism to face any emergency situation that would arise on the Election Day.

The respective Pradeshiya Sabha polls had been put on hold by the Supreme Court after it took into consideration a petition filed by the Democratic United National Front (DUNF) over the rejection of its nomination paper in 2017.

Last month, court ordered the Elections Commission to accept the nomination paper and to conduct the polls at the earliest.
