Naval vessels return after goodwill visits to Bangladesh, Myanmar

Naval vessels SLNS Sayura and SLNS Nandimithra, which left the Trincomalee Port on August 22 on a goodwill and training visit to Bangladesh and Myanmar, returned to the port last Sunday.

The two ships had reached the Chittagong Port in Bangladesh on August 26 and stayed there till August 29. SLNS Sayura Commanding Officer Captain (ASW) Nilantha Hewavithana and SLNS Nandimithra Commanding Officer Captain (C) Budhdhika Liyanagamage called on Chittagong Commander Rear Admiral Abu Ashraf and Bangladesh Naval Fleet Commander Rear Admiral Mohammad Nazmul Hassan.

During their stay in Bangladesh, the Sri Lankan trainee officers visited the Bangladesh Naval Academy and participated in a friendly basketball match with the trainee officers of the Bangladesh Navy. On their departure, the navy engaged in a passage exercise with their Bangladesh counterparts.

On September 1, the ships reached the Yangoon Port in Myanmar. The commanding officers of both ships called on Ayayar Waddi Naval Region Commander Commodore Hteni Win. During their stay, the crews visited the MN 1st Fleet Naval Training Command. Naval personnel also participated in a friendly volleyball match.

On completion of the tour, the ships left the Yangoon Port on September 4.
