Palitha, four remanded for defying court order

Five suspects including Social Empowerment Deputy Minister Palitha Thevarapperuma who were charged with forcibly burying a body on a private land in violation of court order, were ordered to be remand till September 16 by Matugama Magistrate Neetha Hemamali Halpandeniya yesterday.

The suspects were charged with obstructing the duties of Thebuwana Police who had gone to execute a court order, which had prohibited the burial of a body in a private land belonging to an estate.

The estate owner had obtained a court order preventing the suspects from burying the corpse in his estate.The Deputy Minister and the four suspects had obstructed the duties of Police officers of Thebuwana police and buried the body disregarding the court order.
