Wild elephant invasions on the rise in Addalaichenai

Wild elephant invasions has increased in Addalaichenai, recently.Such invasions have increased as the harvesting of the Yala season ended and residents are in state of fear. Wild elephants are invading interior villagers in search of food and water, residents said.

They destroy houses, walls, paddy stores, home gardens, and crops. As a result, the daily income of the poor have also been reduced, they said.

A number of wild elephants have recently entered the Alamkulam, Sambunagar, Meelath Nagar, and Ashraff Nagar villages in Addalaichenai and damaged several crops.

Wild elephants enter villages from the Oluvi-Pallakadu jungle, villagers said. They urged the authorities to take immediate action.
