Stepbrothers drown in Mahaweli canal

Two stepbrothers had drowned while bathing in the Mahaweli canal with a group of friends, last Sunday. Their bodies had been found by neighbours, police said.

The deceased were identified as 30-year-old Jayasundara Herath Mudiyanselage Tissara Sadaruwan from Dickwewa, Galkiriyagama; and 27-year-old Jayasundara Herath Mudiyanselage Srimal Madusanka from Ulpothagama, Galkiriyagama.

Investigations had revealed that the victims had gone to the Dambulla town in the morning and had gone to bathe in the canal on their way home. The bodies of the deceased are being kept at the Dambulla Weera Denzil Kobbekaduwa Base Hospital. Police said that postmortem examinations were to be performed on them yesterday.

Investigations are continuing.
