Danture Battle commemoration on Oct 6

The Vimaladharmasuriya Maha Raja Kusumasana Devi Foundation is making arrangements to commemorate the historic Danture Battle on October 6. The event is to be held at the Danture temple.

Some officials of the foundation met Adivasi Chief Uruwarige Wannila Aththo at his residence in Dambana to honour their ancestors who helped the local forces win the battle by providing the necessary expertise, weapons, and shelter. They also invited the Adivasi Chief to attend the event as its chief guest.

The Danture Battle was the final encounter with the Portuguese, in 1594.
