Ashan and Jacques steal the limelight at Gajaba Supercross

Ashan Silva once again proved his supremacy in the motor cars event by bagging the Best Drivers Trophy for the third successive year while Jacques Gunawardana was adjudged the Best Rider at the Gajaba Supercross 2019, which was held at the Gajaba Racing Track, Saliyapura, Anuradhapura last Sunday.

The meet was held as the second gravel event of the CEAT SLADA Championship and included 12 driving and 12 riding events.

Ashan who recorded the best time on previous day got off to a good start and drove his car to victory by winning both races of SL/GT 3500cc events.

Even though Kushan secured the second place till fifth round which consisted of eight rounds in the first race he was overtaken by Ushan who finished the race in second. place Kushan had to be satisfied with the third place. Veteran driver Missaka and Tyronne Hendavitharana finished the race in fourth and fifth positions respectively. Veteran driver Aravinda Premadasa pulled out from the race in the second race of the same event, Kushan won the second place. Ushan Sajaad and Kapila won the third, fourth and fifth places respectively.

The second fastest event of the championship SL/H 1618cc event was won by Randika Nirosh. Davian and Upulwan Serasinghe, the father and son combination, won the second and third paces respectively.

SL/S 1500cc special event ended on a controversial manner. Even though Shehara Jayawardana won the race as a result of an accident, competitors were uncertain of the decision of the race referee.

Farm Neman and Nadeera Jinasena claimed the second and third places respectively on the decision of the referee.

Keshara Godage, who showed his driving and riding skills from the beginning of the year, won both events of SL/E 1000cc Nissan March and SL/E Standard 1300cc Ford Laser/Mazda

Veteran driver Upulwan Serasinghe won the SL/N Standard 1300cc Ford Laser/Mazda event.

Jacques Gunawradana won the second place of the first race and the first place of the second race of MX 125cc (2T) 250cc(4T) event. Sameera Premaratne won the third place in first race while Banuka Ratnayake won the third place in second race. The Best Rider of the previous year Ishan Dassanayake could not show his prowess.

Imal Manchanayake won both events of the MX Super and Super Mortard Open events and bagged the Ananda Wedisinghe Memorial Trophy as usual. Deshan Solanki emerged second in both events. Both driving and riding team trophy was clinched by the CEAT team.

The chief guest of the event was Commander of the Sri Lanka Army and Commandant of the Gajaba Regiment Lt. Gen. Shavendra Silva.

Air Voice International (Pvt) Ltd was the main sponsor of the event while Singer Sri Lanka, CEAT Kelani Tyre, Hutch Communication and Lanka Arogya were the co-sponsors.
