Suspect arrested with heroin

Divisional Crimes Investigation Unit of Kelaniya raided and arrested the elder brother of a suspect, who is in custody with heroin at Nawaloka roundabout area on Sunday.

The arrestee, 43-year-old Samantha Jayalath of Kekirawa was taken into the custody with five grams and 100 milligrams of heroin based on a confession by his younger brother, Buddhika Jayalath.

The 31-year-old Buddhika had been arrested with four grams and 60 milligrams last week and currently is in the custody of the DCIU on a seven-day detention order.

Both suspects have been identified as army deserters and Island Re-convicted Criminals.

Further interrogations have revealed that the duo had committed 15 burglaries in Kadawatha, Wattala and Kiribathgoda police areas. Police found jewelery worth of Rs. 1.7 million and Rs. 450, 000 in cash stolen by them yesterday.

The suspects were to be produced before the Aluthkade Magistrate Courts today.  

DCIU is investigating.
